Ford Rock – Recreation Area

You may not know where Ford Rock is, but Bideford Town Council want you to!

Opposite the entrance to Devonshire Park on the A386 South entrance to the Town, alongside the river is a small parcel of land that was, many years ago, a beautiful spot with fruit trees and a great view along the river.  It became badly neglected over a long period of time and for the last few years the Town Council has tried to determine responsibility for the site.

At last (and after a Manor Court Presentment was put forward) Ford Rock is looking beautiful once again.  The Town Rangers have cleared the site completely, planted Laurel hedging as well as native Rowan trees, and determined the boundary.  They have grassed the area and laid a bark pathway.  With four 8-seater picnic tables and sympathetic fencing, beauty has been restored and is available for us by residents and visitors alike.

Councillor Doug Bushby stated “This project has been a long time coming, but it has been worth the wait, the transformation has been fantastic – people can come and sit and while away the time by the river, bring their picnic and enjoy the views and”.  He added “ it is a short stroll (or bike ride) out of the Town into relative tranquillity”.

Councillor Bushby further thanked Torridge District Council for their helpful grant funding which has contributed to the overall enhancement of the site.
