Official Opening of the Bideford Town Council Ranger Depot

Bideford Town Council today saw the official opening of the new Town Ranger Depot at the Caddsdown Industrial Park. The opening ceremony was conducted by Councillor Doug Bushby, Chair of the Staffing, Finance and General purpose Committee in conjunction with the Town Mayor – Councillor Ms. Rachel Clarke.

Councillor Bushby said “In 2016 the Town Council created its new Maintenance Team. Two workers operating out of temporary accommodation, with a variety of tools and equipment. This grew to four staff members and it was soon realised that a larger and permanent operating base was required. Fast forward to 2020, and a possible site was identified at Caddsdown with an approach to the land owner made. Agreement was made to purchase the land and discussions with building contractors started. Our newly re-branded Town Rangers go from strength to strength and the work we undertake around the Bideford area continues to expand”.

The ceremony was attended by Steve Hearse Chief Executive Torridge District Council, Town Councillors, Officers and Town Rangers. This marks an historic point for Bideford Town Council’s development and will greatly assist in the long term cost reduction and increased efficiency for the Town Rangers, it is an asset for the Town. It will be used for a vast array of work as well as storage during summer months for wonderful Christmas light display and over wintering for our beautiful floral planters and hanging baskets.

The project would not have taken place without our partners help in delivery. Bideford Town Council would like to give special thanks to C & R Construction to who delivered this bespoke building, constructed to the needs of the Town Rangers and also Graham Blight of Country Cottage Bakery for his kind and generous support for this project. Also, Darren Sparrey of DS Electrical who has provided the Town Rangers a temporary home in the years preceding construction.
